Transitional Housing Opportunities

The Transitional Housing Program at AWARE, Inc., assists domestic violence survivors in bridging the gap between leaving their domestic violence situation and creating an independent, violent-free life for themselves and their children.  Our program helps clients with accomplishing self-identified goals during their time in the program.  We also assist with rent and specific assistance according to the nature of the client's needs for up to two years.  The goal of the program is to ensure the survivor's successful transition out of their domestic violence situation to self-sufficiency.  Clients undergo extensive case management to work on their self-identified goals, which include, but are not limited to, seeking employment and enrolling in school.

There are currently three types of Transitional Housing programs coordinated by AWARE:

  1. AWARE's family units:  AWARE owns 8 units in the Jackson community.  Women with children, who have physical custody  of their children, are eligible to apply.
  2. Single Women's program:  Women who either have no children, or whose children are grown, or who do not have physical custody of their children are eligible to apply to this program.  The participant will have to find a place of their own within the limits of Jackson County and the housing must pass HUD inspection.
  3. CAA's family program:  This program is funded through the Jackson Community action Agency.  AWARE provides case management for the participants of this program.  Women with children,m who have physical custody of their children, are eligible to apply.   The participant will have to find a place of their own within the limits of Jackson County and the housing must pass HUD inspection.

Anyone who is a survivor of domestic violence and meets the above criteria are eligible to apply.  Most survivors enter the transitional housing program after first having resided in the Shelter.
