Sexual Assault Counselor (Full Time)

AWARE, Inc. of Jackson, MI is seeking a Sexual Assault Counselor to provide supportive counseling to domestic and sexual violence survivors. Applicants must have a master’s degree in counseling, social work or related field. The candidate must have a minimum of two years’ of counseling experience, preferably in trauma and sexual assault counseling. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of and ability to employ a variety of therapeutic techniques, as appropriate to children, adults and groups.

This position requires individual and group counseling. Assist when needed in community education presentations (public speaking and training) to the community (e.g. schools, colleges, youth groups, community organizations, hospitals, police departments, etc.) and distribute information about the issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, and AWARE services.

Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with clients. Applicant should be proficient with Microsoft Office. Applicants must be reliable, professional and able to multi-task. Applicant must possess a private driver’s license and have access to fully operational, insured vehicle for work travel and undergo a central registry clearance and security check. This position is full time from Monday through Friday with the primary hours being from 8am -5:00pm. Some evenings are required.

Shelter Advocate (Full Time)

Aware is currently accepting resumes for a full time Shelter Advocate position, 3rd Shift 12am-8am. This position is responsible for providing client-centered, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive crisis advocacy and support services to adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children. A Few of the Key Functions:
• Respond to 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, and information and referral services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
• Provide face-to-face, voluntary intervention and support on an emergency basis to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families. Services shall be provided at non-traditional safe locations such as hospitals, police stations, etc.
• Provide, assist and/or advocate on behalf of clients and their dependent children to link clients with community systems to secure counseling, legal advocacy, housing, employment/financial assistance, health related assistance, transportation or other services related to gaining independence.
• Work with Director of Shelter Operations to ensure safe operations of shelter facility.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required; college experience/degree preferred, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Previous experience working in domestic violence and/or sexual assault program, or other human service agency preferred.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to issues related to domestic and sexual violence
• Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license.

Shelter Advocate (Part Time)

AWARE, Inc. seeks a part-time, motivated Shelter Advocate to work in the 24-hour Domestic Violence Shelter as part of a team. Duties include: Providing crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals to callers on the agency’s 24-hour crisis hotline, providing support and programming to shelter residents, documenting services provided, and some administrative duties. Some lifting and climbing of stairs is required. High School Diploma is required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

The Shelter Advocate position starts at $9.50 per hour with a midnight shift premium. Applicant must be available to work some weekends, holidays and third shift. Applicant must pass a DHS background check and a Michigan State Police Department Criminal history background check.

Maintenance Worker (Part Time)

AWARE Inc. is seeking a Maintenance worker. The position is contractual and from 10-20 hours per week. This position is responsible for day to day maintenance of AWARE Inc.’s emergency shelter and operated facilities.

Must have maintenance experience and be able to demonstrate familiarity with general plumbing, mechanical, electrical, painting, and other common maintenance areas. Having experience with occupancy laws & ordinances strongly preferred. Must respect and be sensitive to the confidentiality of clients. Must have a valid driver’s license and car insurance as well as be able to pass agencies security clearance and a background check.
